Gluten Free Roast Turkey Leg with Vegetables Recipe.
I have been craving a roast for some time. A plate of delicious meat and crispy, chunky veggies are always a favourite of mine in the colder months. So fittingly this week I am sharing my Gluten Free Roast Turkey Leg with Vegetables Recipe.

Gluten Free Roast Turkey Leg with Vegetables Recipe
Ingredients
For the Meat
- 1 tbsp of rosemary
- 1 tbsp of olive oil
- 1 turkey leg
- 1 tsp of sea salt optional
For the Vegetables
- 1 tsp of olive oil
- 1 tsp of sea salt
- 1 parsnip
- 2 broccoli tips
- 2 large carrots
Instructions
Stage 1 – the Turkey Leg
- Preheat the oven to 270°C (250°C fan).
- Line an oven proof dish with roasting foil.
- Then, place a large piece of roasting foil in the dish.
- Put the turkey leg on top of this roasting foil.
- Evenly spread the rosemary, olive oil and salt (if you choose to add this) over the turkey leg.
- Bring up the sides of the roasting foil, so they completely cover the turkey leg. Scrunch the foil at the top to seal the turkey leg in a pouch.
- Cook the turkey leg in the oven for 1 hour.
- Take the turkey leg out of the oven and partially open the top of the roasting foil, so that most of turkey leg is exposed.
- Spoon some of the excess oil that the turkey sits in over the top of the leg.
- Place the turkey back in the oven and cook for another 1 hour, this time at 220°C (200°C fan).
Stage 2 – the Vegetables
- Gather the vegetables and wash them thoroughly.
- Peel the carrots and the parsnip and chop off the ends.
- Chop the carrots and parsnips into chunky slices.
- Place the vegetables into a pot and add the sea salt.
- Parboil the vegetables for 20 minutes.
- Place the vegetables on a tinfoil tray/ oven tray and spread the olive oil evenly over them.
- Cook the vegetables in the oven for 45 minutes at 220°C (200°C fan).
Stage 3 – the Turkey Leg and Vegetables together
- Serve the turkey leg with the vegetables together, either on the same plate or with the vegetables on a side plate.
- Enjoy!

Tips and Tricks
- Feel free to add any additional seasoning, spices and herbs. For this recipe, my own preference is to solely add rosemary. If you want to spice up this recipe, I would recommend using any spice mix you desire. I am sure that seasoning the turkey leg and the vegetables with pepper, for example, would be very nice!
- I personally would use Cajun Blackening Spice Blend Organic or Caribbean Adobo Spice Rub Organic from Seasoned Pioneers as a spice mix for this recipe. Both are advertised as gluten free on Seasoned Pioneers site, at least at the present.

- Other herbs like oregano and chives also add flavour to the turkey leg and/or the vegetables.
- Feel free to add any desired sauces to the turkey leg and/or the vegetables. For example, adding a gluten free gravy or a gluten free cranberry sauce can complement this roast. If you are partial to these condiments, you can certainly add them!
- As for the meat, this recipe would still work well if you substituted the turkey leg for a different leg of meat such as a leg of lamb.
- As for the vegetables, you could also add or subtract any veggies you desire. Root vegetables, of course, are known for working well with any roast. Particularly, root vegetables like beetroots, ginger, onions, potatoes, sweet potatoes and turnips (to name a few) can also be lovely additions to any roast.
- Personally, I can happily eat this meal myself and regard it as a 1 serving recipe. However, depending on your appetite, I think that if the turkey leg is carved, it could potentially stretch to 2 servings.
- If you wish to keep the turkey fully covered in the roasting foil the whole time it is in the oven, and not take it out until serving, you must increase the cooking time to 3 hours at 270°C (250°C fan).
Whether to Add Salt to the Turkey Leg….
Adding salt to the turkey leg is optional. The salt can help to make the meat extra juicy, but it is up to you whether you want to add it. Personally, I don’t add salt to my turkey leg, as I don’t think it is necessary, as the meat is juicy enough on its own. However, it is up to you (and your preferences) whether you want to add it.
To Add a Honey Glaze or to Not Add a Honey Glaze, That is the Question….
I know some people really love to add a (gluten free) honey glaze to their roast. After all, a lot of people love a sweet and salty combination. Honestly, I love the salty taste of the meat without feeling the need to add something sweet, but it is up to you, if you want to add this. I also don’t feel the need to add any honey glaze to my vegetables either, but if adding a glaze appeals to you then that is always an option. Always feel free to make things to your own taste.
