Fantastic Low-Fat Grain Free Treats For Your Grain Free Dog.

Assorted low-fat, grain-free dog treats displayed on a rustic wooden surface—perfect for sensitive stomachs and heart-healthy diets, as reviewed by GlutenFreeVIPs.com.

Intro

As you can guess by now, I follow a gluten-free diet—and so does my dog. My dog is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, a breed often known for having tummy troubles. I’ll say this. Since switching her from a regular diet to a grain-free one, she’s been noticeably happier. Also, her digestive issues have significantly improved.

While the grain-free diet suits her specific needs much better, finding grain-free treats can be quite a challenge—especially since I also look for low-fat options. Cavaliers are known for having delicate hearts, so I do everything I can to keep my girl as healthy as possible.

I know this week’s post is a bit of a departure from the usual gluten-free recipes or reviews for humans, but I hope it’s helpful in your search for low-fat, grain-free treats for dogs. I certainly don’t know every option out there, so if you have any recommendations, I’d be truly grateful. It’s always nice to have more potential treats in my arsenal!

Disclaimer

Everything shown in this article I bought myself. My thoughts and opinions are my own and this is not an advertisement just my honest opinion. Please buy things at your own discretion.

The treats I decided to review today are all my dog’s current favourites. (This article was made in April 2025 just in case someone is looking at this article way in the future).

The treats I am reviewing in this post today are (in no particular order):

  • The Innocent Hound Training Treats – Tuna & Crab Rewards
  • Pooch & Mutt Probiotic Meaty Dog Treats – Shrimp & Coconut
  • Forthglade National trust salmon & herring dog treats
  • Edgard & Cooper Snuggle Up Chicken Strips
  • SmartBones Rawhide Alternative Dog Chew Sticks Chicken
  • Pooch & Mutt Peanut Butter Dental Sticks For Dogs
  • JR Pets Pure Goat Sticks
  • Scrumbles Softies: Salmon Dog Treats

The Innocent Hound Training Treats – Tuna & Crab Rewards

The Innocent Hound's gourmet tuna and crab dog treats—elegantly packaged, grain-free, and gently air-dried for a high-protein, luxury snack.

Innocent Hound is one of my dog’s favourite treats because it’s almost pure meat and exceptionally high quality. What I love most is that it’s both grain-free and low in fat. In fact, it’s one of the lowest-fat treats I know of with such impressive quality, containing a crude fat content of just 1.35% (as of this article’s publish date).

The Innocent Hound training treats are perfect for on-the-go rewards. They’re tiny, and unlike traditional biscuits, they have a proper meat-like texture that dogs adore.

That said, quality does come at a price—this is one of the more expensive entries on the list. However, I genuinely believe it’s worth it. One important note: it’s specifically the tuna and crab training treats that are low in fat. While Innocent Hound does offer other low-fat products, some of their treats are actually quite high in fat, so please keep that in mind when choosing.

Pooch & Mutt Probiotic Meaty Dog Treats – Shrimp & Coconut

Pooch & Mutt shrimp and coconut dog treats—grain-free, bite-sized snacks with tropical flavour, designed to support digestion and skin health.

Once again another one of my dog’s favourites, she really does love meat-based products! Again, what I like about this treat is that it is grain free and low in fat, also it has a soft texture which makes it easier for her to chew. Though, maybe not as obvious in the picture, these treats are a good enough size individually that you can easily break one into two so that your dog feels like they have had more than they actually had.

Another good thing to note as a pet owner is that these treats are on the less smelly side which can always be a positive!😉

Forthglade National Trust Salmon & Herring Dog Treats

Forthglade salmon and herring dog food—grain-free, gently steamed natural ingredients in eco-friendly packaging, crafted to support joint health and a glossy coat.

Other than my dog absolutely adoring this treat, what I love about them is that they are so cute! I love the heart shaped treat and I love how easy it is to break this treat in half. Additionally, you might catch a running them on this list that a lot of the treats are kind of a mix between a biscuit and a soft chewy texture which I love for my dog as I don’t have to worry about the harshness of the treat on her teeth as much!

Overall, another great treat that my dog just can’t get enough of!

Edgard & Cooper Snuggle Up Chicken Strips

Edgard & Cooper Snuggle Up chicken strips—gently baked, grain-free dog treats made with free-range chicken, ideal for bedtime bonding and sensitive tummies.

Everyone needs a pick me up in the day and my dog likes to have a civilised afternoon snack and these Edgar and Cooper Snuggle Up Chicken Strips are absolutely perfect for that. What I like about this treat is that my dog can take the treat and go off to her bed and have a nice leisurely eat of the treat! There’s nothing better than just watching her eat and enjoy herself!❤️

SmartBones Rawhide Alternative Dog Chew Sticks Chicken

SmartBones chicken-flavored rawhide-free dog chew sticks—easy to digest, vitamin-enriched, and shaped for satisfying gnawing without the mess of traditional rawhide.

I know I said that this was a treat guide but my dog loves eating these for lunch. They are a great low fat and grain free lunch that doesn’t require any preparation. Its great just being able to give my dog her stick so that she can eat her lunch – it is a great food for us to eat our lunch together. If your dog is not a chicken lover, I also believe that they make this stick in a peanut flavour!

Pooch & Mutt Peanut Butter Dental Sticks For Dogs

Pooch & Mutt peanut butter dental sticks for dogs—grain-free, vet-approved chews designed to support oral hygiene and satisfy peanut-loving pups.

I have already added Pooch and Mutt to the list before, and this is just a testament to the fact that I think that they are a great brand for low fat and grain free dog treats and dental sticks. I do like these dental sticks as an alternative for the smartbones entry above, however, whilst these ones are great I do prefer the smartbones as this Pooch & Mutt Peanut Butter Dental Sticks are a bit on the wide side which can make it a bit harder for my dog to eat! But she still loves them, so I thought I would recommend them!

JR Pets Pure Goat Sticks

JR Pet Products Pure Goat Sticks—single-protein, grain-free dog treats made from 100% goat meat, air-dried for a natural chew ideal for sensitive digestion and allergy-prone pups.

JR Pets Pure Goat Sticks are a good treat for your dog, I love that they are grain-free and my dog absolutely adores them.

Disclaimer: JR Pets have recently made some recipe changes and I believe that the majority of their pure meat sticks are actually no longer low in fat (so make sure to keep that in mind and thoroughly look at the website to see what the fat content is now like).

Scrumbles Softies: Salmon Dog Treats

Scrumbles Softies salmon dog treats—grain-free, gently baked bites with added probiotics, perfect for training and sensitive tummies.

Once again, another great treat that my dog absolutely adores. She loves salmon and all kinds of treats with meat in them so this is fantastic for her. They are a great size and if you do need to split the treat in two, for portion control purposes, it is an easy treat to do so! I also like how convenient it is to get the treat as I know it is in a lot of local shops!
