The Best Gluten Free & Dog Friendly Restaurants in Cambridgeshire.
Intro
Cambridgeshire is one of the most talked about counties in the UK. It is famous for being the home of the world-renowned university town, Cambridge, which the county is named after. However, there is more to the county than its namesake city.
Other towns, like Huntingdon, Peterborough and St Neots, add to the character of the region. Did you know that Peterborough is the biggest city in Cambridgeshire? I didn’t until I started to explore the county.
There are also charming small countryside villages such as Barrington. If you are looking to visit a town with pretty thatched houses and a beautiful village green, Barrington is the ideal place to go.
Planning a visit to Cambridgeshire (or just curious)?
If you are a fan of walking, the Cambridgeshire countryside is great for green space and biodiversity. I particularly enjoy taking my dog to Milton Country Park when I am in the area, for example.
Wherever you go, you’ve got to eat. So, with this sentiment in mind, I will be sharing my favourite restaurants in Cambridgeshire that cater to a gluten-free diet and are also dog-friendly. I know that when I am travelling with my dog, it can be hard to find a nice restaurant that is accommodating to us Gluten Free VIPs and doggy guests. All of the restaurants in this list let dogs inside.
I have created two lists .
- List 1: The Best Gluten Free Restaurants in Cambridgeshire.
- List 2: The Best Dog Friendly Restaurants in Cambridgeshire.
See, these lists as my Cambridgeshire travel guides.
Disclaimer
Just as a disclaimer, I have not been paid, gifted or given anything to write about these establishments. These are my own opinions, I have paid for everything that I have tried at these places and this is not an advertisement.
All of the establishments listed here advertise gluten-free options to the best of my knowledge. This may be subject to changes. Most of these places on this list have mixed kitchens that also handle gluten.
Just to note, this is a subjective list based on my experiences and preferences. Feel free to comment below if you know any other top gluten-free and dog friendly places to dine in Cambridgeshire that I haven’t included.
Even if something is listed as gluten free on a menu, I always let my server know that I am coeliac and require my meal to be gluten-free, which I would always recommend as it has definitely saved me from being glutened in the past.
Onto the lists:
List 1: The Best Gluten-Free Restaurants in Cambridgeshire
- Rupert Brooke, Grantchester
- The Cock, Hemingford Grey (near Huntingdon)
- The Royal Oak, Barrington
- The Crown Inn, Linton
- The Crown and Punchbowl, Horningsea
- The Tickell Arms, Whittlesford
👑 Winner: Rupert Brooke, Grantchester

The food at Rupert Brooke was high-end and delicious. If you are looking for an interesting menu with lots of gluten-free options, Rupert Brooke really delivers on this. It is not everyday that I have monkfish tail and chorizo!
If you have looked at my review of The Best Gluten Free & Dog Friendly Eateries In Essex, you will notice a similar story. The most expensive restaurant on the list, The Dog and Pickle, had the highest quality of food. So, remember to factor in the price when considering it as a place to eat.
The Cock, Hemingford Grey (near Huntingdon)

The gluten-free options at The Cock were stellar. There were a variety of gluten-free options, they even provided a gluten-free menu! They have been praised before for their steaks, so I ordered a ribeye, which turned out to be so smoky and tender. Alongside the steak, they gave me a burnt onion BBQ sauce that almost tasted like BBQ gravy – it really was unique and elevated the meal.
They had a range of GF options on the Specials as well, which was nice. A friend of mine, one of the Gluten Free VIPs in my life, ordered a swordfish dish from the Specials that she raved about.
The Royal Oak, Barrington

On this visit, my friends and I had a wonderful Sunday roast. Like before, there were a considerable number of gluten-free options on the menu. The staff were friendly and noted down when a meal had to be gluten-free. I had a beef roast, and I could tell that the meat was of high quality. If I’m honest, the roast potatoes were a bit too overdone for my liking and hard to chew. Other than this, the meal really was a treat and very enjoyable!
The Crown Inn, Linton

The Crown Inn is a family-run pub and has a real community atmosphere. The portions were hearty and the servers were very friendly. Like at The Royal Oak, I enjoyed a Sunday roast with a friend. While I had a gluten-free beef roast, my friend had a gluten-free chicken roast. I really enjoyed the crunchy roast potatoes, though my friend thought that they were a bit too hard.
My main complaint is that I had to share a portion of vegetables with my friend, and that we both feel that we could have benefited with more. Overall, the food was great though.
The Crown and Punchbowl, Horningsea

The restaurant offered a gluten-free menu with a diverse range of options like roasted poussin and bavette steak. I ordered one of the gluten-free Specials, the plaice. I enjoyed the fish and particularly the new potatoes. However, I found the butter sauce a little overpowering, so I regret not asking for the dish to be plain. This was more of a communication error on my part, rather than reflecting on the quality of the meal.
The Tickell Arms, Whittlesford

I enjoyed a nice chicken roast at The Tickell Arms. They had a good deal running (at least at the time that I visited in August 2025) with 2 courses for £29 per head. It was great that the gluten-free roast was included in this deal, as I know first-hand how there can be added premium to gluten-free food at other restaurants. The chicken was nice, though the potatoes were a bit hard and bland. However, the chocolate delice was delicious. My main issue was that it took a bit of a while for the food to arrive, but I attribute this to the fact that there was a big celebration/ get-together going on at I table nearby. I also went at peak time (1pm).

👑 Winner: The Cock, Hemingford Grey (near Huntingdon)

This restaurant was, by far, the most friendly to my dog. The staff were kind and my group (including my dog) were allowed to sit in the restaurant – we could choose between the bar area and restaurant!
From my many years of experience of taking my dog to restaurants, this has been one of the only times where my dog has been let into the main restaurant itself! (Note: I will say that I booked the table for 3pm, a very uncommon time, which may have played a factor in the staff’s decision.)
The table had lots of floor space for my dog. My dog was also allow to sit on my lap. The staff also offered a water bowl for my dog.
The pub has its own car park, which is obviously handy for travelling with dogs.
Rupert Brooke, Grantchester

I was genuinely (pleasantly) surprised about how accommodating Rupert Brooke was to my dog. Considering this is the most expensive restaurant on the list, I thought that they might have frowned on additional four-legged guests. However, I was wrong. They were very nice. The dog-friendly seating area was spacious. My dog had lots of room on the (very clean) floor. They were relaxed about my dog sitting on my lap at times too! Their positive attitude added to the experience. The pub had its own parking.
The Crown Inn, Linton

At this very friendly pub, I was allowed in the bar area with my dog on a long table. They offered my dog a bowl of water. Though the table was a considerable size, the booth seating was uncomfortable with the cushion regularly moving around. On the plus side, they had no complaints about my dog sitting on my lap. The bar area was very busy, which did make it harder for my dog to relax, though I booked a table for 1pm – a peak pub lunch hour. There was parking at the back of the pub.
The Royal Oak, Barrington

My table was in the dog-friendly bar area. What really elevated my group’s experience was that we were tucked away in a quiet corner of the pub. Our table wasn’t the biggest, but there was still room for my dog on the floor. They are okay with my dog sitting on my lap. They didn’t really mention my dog. Overall, the pub is close to lots of green spaces and they have parking for patrons on site.
The Crown and Punchbowl, Horningsea

I visited The Crown and Punchbowl at an off-peak time, 4pm. I was offered a comfortable circular table in the bar area. There was space for my dog under the table though not as much as other places like Rupert Brooke, The Cock and The Crown Inn; nobody protested when my dog sat on my lap. The car park was massive though, which made the restaurant a lot more accessible.
The Tickell Arms, Whittlesford

The staff at The Tickell Arms were nice to my dog. They offered my dog a water bowl. Though the space for my group felt very confined, including space for my dog. I found it easier to let my dog sit under the table most of my time there, though it was still a bit cramped. The restaurant was very noisy, which didn’t help. As I mentioned before, the time of the booking probably didn’t help my experience. There was packing in front of the pub.
