Fantastic Low-Fat Grain Free Treats For Your Grain Free Dog.

As you can guess by now I follow a gluten free diet, but so does my dog. My dog is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and that is a breed that is often known to a have tummy problems, and I will say this, once I switched from a normal diet to a grain free diet for my dog she has been much happier and has had reduced tummy problems. But, whilst the grain free diet is much better for her specific needs, it can be quite hard to find grain free treats, especially as I also look for low fat treats as Cavalier’s are known for having quite weak hearts, so I try anything I can to keep my girl as healthy as possible! So, I know it is a bit of a change this week from the usual gluten free recipe or review for humans, but I hope this is helpful to aid you on your search for low fat grain free treats for dogs. I absolutely do not know every grain free low-fat treat out there, so if there is anything that you can recommend I would greatly appreciate it, it is always nice having more potential treats to choose from in my arsenal.

The treats I decided to review today are all my dog’s current favourites (this article was made in April 2025 just in case someone is looking at this article way in the future).

The treats I am reviewing in this post today are (in no particular order):

  • The Innocent Hound Training Treats – Tuna & Crab Rewards
  • Pooch & Mutt Probiotic Meaty Dog Treats – Shrimp & Coconut
  • Forthglade National trust salmon & herring dog treats
  • Edgard & Cooper Snuggle Up Chicken Strips
  • SmartBones Rawhide Alternative Dog Chew Sticks Chicken
  • Pooch & Mutt Peanut Butter Dental Sticks For Dogs
  • JR Pets Pure Goat Sticks
  • Scrumbles Softies: Salmon Dog Treats

The Innocent Hound Training Treats – Tuna & Crab Rewards

Innocent Hound

Innocent hound is one of my dog’s favourite treats because it is almost pure meat and it is extremely good quality. The reason why I love this treat for her is because it is both grain free and low in fat. It is actually one of the lowest fat treats that I know of that is such good quality with it having a Crude Fat of 1.35% (as of this article’s publish date). The innocent hound training treats are a really good on the go treat as they are so small and they are not like a biscuit at all, they are actually like a proper meat textured snack.

However, quality does come at a price and this has to be one of the more expensive entries on this list, but I will say that it is worth it. Additionally, just one thing to note that it is these training treats tuna and crab rewards that are specifically low fat, I do believe that they make other low fat products as well but there are some products that they make which are actually quite high in fat so please do keep that in mind.

Pooch & Mutt Probiotic Meaty Dog Treats – Shrimp & Coconut

Once again another one of my dog’s favourites, she really does love meat-based products! Again, what I like about this treat is that it is grain free and low in fat, also it has a soft texture which makes it easier for her to chew. Though, maybe not as obvious in the picture, these treats are a good enough size individually that you can easily break one into two so that your dog feels like they have had more than they actually had.

Another good thing to note as a pet owner is that these treats are on the less smelly side which can always be a positive!😉

Forthglade National Trust Salmon & Herring Dog Treats

Other than my dog absolutely adoring this treat, what I love about them is that they are so cute! I love the heart shaped treat and I love how easy it is to break this treat in half. Additionally, you might catch a running them on this list that a lot of the treats are kind of a mix between a biscuit and a soft chewy texture which I love for my dog as I don’t have to worry about the harshness of the treat on her teeth as much!

Overall, another great treat that my dog just can’t get enough of!

Edgard & Cooper Snuggle Up Chicken Strips

Everyone needs a pick me up in the day and my dog likes to have a civilised afternoon snack and these Edgar and Cooper Snuggle Up Chicken Strips are absolutely perfect for that. What I like about this treat is that my dog can take the treat and go off to her bed and have a nice leisurely eat of the treat! There’s nothing better than just watching her eat and enjoy herself!❤️

SmartBones Rawhide Alternative Dog Chew Sticks Chicken

I know I said that this was a treat guide but my dog loves eating these for lunch. They are a great low fat and grain free lunch that doesn’t require any preparation. Its great just being able to give my dog her stick so that she can eat her lunch – it is a great food for us to eat our lunch together. If your dog is not a chicken lover, I also believe that they make this stick in a peanut flavour!

Pooch & Mutt Peanut Butter Dental Sticks For Dogs

I have already added Pooch and Mutt to the list before, and this is just a testament to the fact that I think that they are a great brand for low fat and grain free dog treats and dental sticks. I do like these dental sticks as an alternative for the smartbones entry above, however, whilst these ones are great I do prefer the smartbones as this Pooch & Mutt Peanut Butter Dental Sticks are a bit on the wide side which can make it a bit harder for my dog to eat! But she still loves them, so I thought I would recommend them!

JR Pets Pure Goat Sticks

JR Pets Pure Goat Sticks are a good treat for your dog, I love that they are grain-free and my dog absolutely adores them.

Disclaimer: JR Pets have recently made some recipe changes and I believe that the majority of their pure meat sticks are actually no longer low in fat (so make sure to keep that in mind and thoroughly look at the website to see what the fat content is now like).

Scrumbles Softies: Salmon Dog Treats

Once again, another great treat that my dog absolutely adores. She loves salmon and all kinds of treats with meat in them so this is fantastic for her. They are a great size and if you do need to split the treat in two, for portion control purposes, it is an easy treat to do so! I also like how convenient it is to get the treat as I know it is in a lot of local shops!
