Gluten Free and Some Dog Friendly Restaurants in Cambridgeshire 2024

Gluten Free and some dog friendly restaurants pubs and cafes in Cambridgeshire

Restaurant Recommendations in Cambridgeshire for Gluten free (and Sometimes Also Dog Friendly)

Gluten free restaurants, cafes and pubs to consider visiting when in Cambridge!

Just as a disclaimer….

I have not been paid, gifted or given anything to write about these establishments. These are my own opinions, I have paid for everything that I have tried at these places and this is not an advertisement.

All of the establishments listed here advertise gluten free options to the best of my knowledge. This may be subject to changes. Most of these places on this list have mixed kitchens that also handle gluten, so always keep this in mind when dining at these places. I have starred all the places, where I have personally visited.

*= I have visited.

Even if something is listed as gluten free on a menu, I always let my server know that I am coeliac and require my meal to be gluten free, which I would always recommend as it has definitely saved me from being glutened in the past.

Now… drumroll… onto the list….

Barrington

*  The Royal Oak

Royal Oak dog friendly restaurant with gluten free food

A beautiful timber-beamed pub opposite the longest village green in Europe. There are lots of gluten free options, and some of these were vegan and/or vegetarian options as well, including a vegan risotto. I went with some gluten-loving friends (and my dog), and even they ended up inadvertently ordering all gluten free options. I had the 14oz flat iron steak and fries, whilst they had the chicken laksa and the lamb rump respectively. For my food, they marked it with an allergy stick, which I found reassuring, plus it was handy to use to pick up my fries. At the behest of my friends, I also had the dark chocolate tart, which turned out to be delicious, especially the dark cherry gel. Dogs are allowed inside the pub and in the outside area.

Carnivore heaven! As you can expect from a chophouse, this place really delivers on the meat – there are some vegetarian and gluten free options, but there is limited choice. For meat lovers, like me, there are loads of options from starters, mains, sides and puddings. I chose the butler steak, which was one of the best that I have personally had. I also like the fact that I got to choose gluten free fries as not all places which offer gluten free options provide them. The food is quite pricey, but I suppose that is to be expected for a steak meal and its central Cambridge location. Unfortunately, they don’t take dogs inside the restaurant.

Both the All Day Menu and Kids Menu have gluten free options. I have been here a couple of times, and always had a good lunch. Along with meaty gluten free options, there are some plant based, vegetarian gluten free options. There is a nice garden area, where you can sit and be served, which also allows dogs.

*  Herbie’s American Diner

Fittingly located next to the A14, this fun diner has lots of gluten free options. I particularly enjoyed their gluten free fries. They offer many classic American-style foods, which they can adjust to be gluten free, including Halloumi fries, Mac β€˜N’ Cheese, burgers, some combos like BBQ chicken and ribs, pizzas, waffles and more. I was really impressed to see on the menu that some of the items like one of the hot dogs, for example, could be vegan and gluten free. No dogs allowed inside, except assistance dogs, unfortunately.
