Gluten Free Air Fryer Sweet Potato Slices/ Chips
A wonderful treat for a cold day! This air fryer sweet potato recipe is quick and easy. Enjoy! 🙂
Ingredients
- 3 Sweet Potatoes
- 1 tsp Olive Oil
If you don’t have Organic Caribbean Adobo Spice Rub you can replicate it with these ingredients as listed on their website
- Black Peppercorns Organic
- Whole Sea Salt
- Cayenne Chilli Organic
- Ground Cumin White Organic
- Roast & Ground Fennel Seeds Organic, Whole
Instructions
- Wash and peel sweet potatoes.
- Slice up the sweet potatoes into slices/chunks (I used 3 and did thick slices, but up to you if you want to cut them into the more traditional chip shape).
- Then parboil the sweet potato slices for 12-15 minutes in slightly salted water (1 teaspoon).
- Next, drain the sweet potato slices from the pot, they should be nice and soft, and then transfer them to the air fryer.
- Season the sweet potato chips with Organic Caribbean Adobo Spice Rub to make them spicy, and make sure to add a dash of olive oil.
- Cook them in the air fryer for 25 minutes (however, I do have quite an old and weak air fryer, so you might have to make an adjustment here, and only fry for 15 minutes, if you have a particularly healthy and strong air fryer).
- Voila, take them out and they are ready to eat. They are lovely and soft and spicy, wonderful for a cold autumnal/ winter morning!

Tips and tricks
- One of the things that I do to give the frozen chips/crispy fries a richer and beefy flavour is that I cook steak beforehand in the air fryer (as I often air fry steak as a go-to meal prep). This gives the fries a rich and beefy flavour, and I really think it adds to the taste. One of the ways that I got the idea for this is that I heard that McDonald’s cooked their fries in beef fat. When I implemented this in my recipe, I felt that it really added to the recipe. Additionally, I do this for my fries recipe in my Gluten Free Frozen Supermarket Chips/Skinny Fries Review – Strong Roots. Be sure to check that out here!
- Lovely for a cold winter morning. I love spicy food, particularly in the winter, because it really helps to not only warm me up, but I feel it helps to prevent me from catching a cold.
- Adding the oil makes the fries a bit crispier, and prevents them from sticking to the air fryer. It also helps to make the seasoning stick to the sweet potato slices!
- Perfect for 2 adult servings, but I have definitely eaten this just by myself!
- This recipe can easily be adapted to not use sweet potatoes, but instead use regular potatoes or other root vegetables, be sure to give it a try and tell me how it went!
Storage/reheating
- Personally, I have always found with reheating homemade chips that they last for 3-5 days in the fridge.
- To properly store in the fridge, the sweet potato slices must be put in an air-tight container.
- Additionally, this is just guidance. So, if it looks a bit dodgy, and you don’t like the look of it, or if it has been out for a while, then it is one for the bin. (When it comes to cooking and baking a bit of common sense will go a long way, and it is always better to be safe than sorry). Additionally, when storing always use an air-tight container, otherwise this advice does not apply.
Seasoned Pioneers
- Seasoned Pioneers is a great find! Seasoned Pioneers makes some gluten free spices, herbs, salts and sauces. Additionally, they offer vegan and vegetarian spices as well.
- Often times I am extremely vigilant about spices, as some companies add wheat to their spices as a bulking agent, and do not appear to disclose this on their labels. What I like about Seasoned Pioneers is that they clearly label their gluten free products. They have enabled me to open my world to different spices and elevated my cooking immensely, while providing me with the reassurance that I won’t get glutened in the process.

My Love for Air Fryers
I love using air fryers as they are very versatile, which is good when living on a gluten free diet.
- Air fryers are great for coeliacs and other people that are gluten free because I find, especially when living in a mixed kitchen, they can be a perfect place to minimise cross-contamination risks and being glutened. This is because I am the only person that uses my air fryer, and I am the only person in the house that is allowed to use the air fryer. It just works so well, and I think it is a perfect way to try and prevent this cross contamination.
- I know that air fryers are by no means inexpensive, but they are definitely much cheaper than getting another oven. So, I definitely love to make air fryer recipes, and particularly air fryer meal prep, so keep watch of this space as there are definitely more air fryer recipes to come!
