1. Ombar Advent Calendar

Gluten Free, Vegan, Dairy Free, Palm Oil Free, Organic, Fair Trade, Made in Cambridge, UK, Certified B Corporation (Plastic Free Packaging).

Warning: Ombar is made with coconut and is not made in a nut free factory, so if you are allergic to coconuts or nuts do not eat this product. Additionally many of the flavours like pistachio and hazelnut are directly made with nuts so please do not eat this if you are allergic to nuts.

Ombar’s organic vegan advent calendar featuring 25 mini oat m’lk chocolate bars in a sleek, eco-friendly box with festive illustrations and bold branding.

Ombar is a fantastic advent calendar that hands down deserves number 1 on the list. It was so fantastic that nothing else on this list compares. It is my personal belief that a Christmas Advent Calendar should have 25 days, and it is a rare find. However, the Ombar has 25 days and not only that, it is the only calendar on the list with 25 days and the only calendar that has more than 1 flavour (it has 5 as shown on the picture below).

The 5 flavours in the Ombar Advent Calendar

Coco Mylk (55% cacao)

A wonderful treat! It has a smooth texture with a wonderful vanilla and cacao blend. For being a chocolate that is dairy free, it is a lovely milk chocolate alternative. It is a basic chocolate mini bar in comparison to the other flavours provided by Ombar, and yet you do not feel like you are missing out at all that you didn’t get an Ombar centre flavour. It is always a testament to how good a chocolate is when the pure chocolate by itself holds up – and Ombar does this flawlessly.

Coco (60% cacao)

As a dark chocolate lover – this was fantastic! Smooth sweet chocolate that is a wonderful treat. As Ombar is made using coconut, I think that the coconut and dark chocolate pairs very well together and it has a wonderful aftertaste.

Ombar Centres: Pistachio

A smooth and creamy centre that has a rich and nutty flavour. Pistachio is a very unique option that is not found in chocolate often, so it was nice to have that variety.

Ombar Centres: Hazelnut Truffle

I am definitely a hazelnut lover, so this treat was perfect for me. However, I will say this, I think I actually preferred the pistachio to the hazelnut truffle.

Ombar Centres: Raspberry & Coconut

Whilst not pictured, when you bite into this chocolate it has a very pretty pink centre to it. The raspberry flavour doesn’t taste artificial at all, it tastes organic and fresh. Additionally, the raspberry adds a lovely tart flavour to the sweet chocolate. Very innovative and high quality!

Part of what make advent calendars so fun is that they are a Christmas decoration and treat in one, so with that being said, time to evaluate the design. Ombar had the best design on the list by far, I think it was fun and well thought out, loved the Christmas colour scheme, the Christmas tree and the presents.

However, whilst Ombar was by far the best on the list it was also the highest price. I thought it was worth every penny due to the high quality and I would be happy if that was my advent calendar for the countdown to Christmas. Additionally, on their website they also do an oat milk advent calendar.

2.Moo Free Chocolate Advent Calendar

Gluten Free, Vegan, Dairy Free, Palm Oil Free, Soya Free, Ethically Sourced, Made in UK, Certified B Corporation (Plastic Packaging Used Made From 100% Recycled Plastics).

Moo Free’s dairy-free, gluten-free advent calendar with playful cartoon-style packaging, showcasing 24 creamy vegan chocolate shapes ideal for kids and adults.

The Moo Free Advent Calendar was the runner up in this review. It just couldn’t beat the variety and quality that Ombar offered. However, the Moo Free Calendar was significantly cheaper. Whilst only offering one plain chocolate flavour, it was still a fun little treat with nice images on the chocolate (not sure how Christmasy those drawings were though). It has a nice taste, but there is nothing else to it. Nonetheless, really liked the packaging and how colourful it was. Additionally, if (vegan) milk chocolate is not your style, I saw on their website that they do a white chocolate one as well.

3.Sainsbury’s Free From Gluten and Milk Choc Advent Calendar

Gluten Free, Vegan, Milk Free.

Sainsbury’s Free From advent calendar with foil-wrapped vegan chocolates behind numbered doors, set in a cheerful red and green holiday-themed design.

This calendar was okay. I thought it had a lovely design (loved the reindeer), it was a good price and I liked that the chocolates had Christmas themed drawings on them. However, it had a strong taste of rice flour that felt like it hadn’t been blended very well. Honestly, the Moo Free was very similar to this except to a higher quality, so if you want a nice and simple calendar, go for the Moo Free one.

However, one great thing about this calendar is that it used colour coding (the RAG system to tell you how much sugar, salt etc. was in the calendar to help you make an educated decision so you know where you stand).

RAG = Red, Amber, Green

4. Nomo No Missing Out Advent Calendar

Gluten Free, Vegan, Dairy Free, Nut Free, Egg Free, Palm Oil Free.

NOMO’s allergy-friendly advent calendar with 24 creamy choc drops, packaged in a vibrant box featuring Christmas characters and labelled free from dairy, gluten, eggs, and nuts.

Personally, I am just not a fan. I have tried other Nomo products and for me it just doesn’t feel like a treat. It is impressive how much it is free from, however other products on the list do just the same and at a higher quality, it just does not compete.

Bonus Dog Advent Calendar: Pooch and Mutt Advent Calendar For Dogs Cheese Fondue Grain Free

Grain Free, Low Fat (Crude Fat = 5%), Probiotics, Natural Ingredients.

Grain-free dog advent calendar by Pooch & Mutt, featuring festive packaging with cheese fondue-themed treats behind numbered doors, designed for canine Christmas joy.

My dog loved this calendar. I chose to add this calendar to the review, because my four-legged friend deserves a Christmas Advent Calendar as well to celebrate the countdown to Christmas with! I chose this calendar specifically because it is low fat and grain-free! In this calendar there are good sized treats that are cheese fondue flavoured – cheese always goes down well with any dog and my dog was no different. Additionally, I like the fact that it was a bit more of a chewy bite-sized treat rather than a biscuit.

Summary

I thought they were all a wonderful little treat to help celebrate the countdown to christmas, however for me, the clear winner was the Ombar calendar. In my previous review on Gluten Free Winter Christmas Chocolate Gift Ideas/ Review 2024, Whitakers and Booja Booja were some of my favourite chocolates, unfortunately they didn’t have any advent calendars to my knowledge, so hopefully one day they do produce Chocolate Advent Calendars!
